01 What is Pledge Zero?

Pledge Zero is a coalition of companies and organizations acting collaboratively to accelerate and achieve zero waste of unsold products and materials.

02 How was Pledge Zero formed?

We are still far off-track from preventing severe global warming in the decades ahead. Furthermore, the transition from a historically linear model to a more circular model is taking too long, which makes this a pivotal moment to act keeping materials’ value and avoiding waste generation. In the wake of this, global actors and allies, decided to join forces with a community of companies committed to achieve zero waste of products and materials by 2040.

04 What type of organizations can join Pledge Zero?

Companies or organizations of all sizes and locations engaged or looking to engage in initiatives to prevent the discard of unsold inventories, products or materials in risk of becoming waste and to take on the challenges of addressing indirect emissions, (scope 3) are eligible to join Pledge Zero.

06 Is there a fee to enter Pledge Zero?

No, there aren’t any costs associated with joining the Pledge.

07 How often will the signatories meet?

Signatories’ meetings periodicity will be agreed between parties based on their availability and convenience. It is suggested, at least, to hold two meetings per year.

08 What are the commitments signatories are adhering to by joining Pledge Zero?

The Pledge Zero calls on companies and organizations to:

  1. Make the effort of giving unsold products and materials a second life.
  2. Set tangible goals for unsold products and materials diverted from final disposal and for quantifying the associated CO2e emissions savings from these actions.
  3. Motivate all actors of your value chain, all tiers of your supply chain, and all investments of your portfolio to engage in Pledge Zero.
  4. Become zero waste of unsold products and materials by 2040.

09 If an organization has already achivied Pledge Zero's target, can it join anyway?

Yes. Any company that has an existing zero waste goal is welcomed to join Pledge Zero, as well as companies or organization that already participate in other similar coalitions.

10 What are the benefits of joining Pledge Zero?

Pledge Zero will entitle signatories to:

  • Significant reduction of unsold products and material costs, especially associated with storage and discard.
  • Recommendations, guidance, and research into finding solutions for issues related to specialized unsold products and materials.
  • A one-year business membership to the Core Zero Paas.
  • The opportunity to choose pledge points that can be reasonably implemented over the next year for first time pledgers.
  • Social media promotion that lets the community know about the pledger and the steps they are taking to reduce and manage unsold products and material.
  • A Pledge Zero decal for display purposes.

11 What are the key performance indicators Pledge Zero will measure?

Pledge Zero will measure

  • Number of non-discard initiatives leading to decreased carbon emissions
  • Quantity (Tn) of products diverted from final disposal.
  • Tons of virgin raw material substituted by recycled raw materials
  • % Waste reduced
  • CO2e emission reductions

12 Will Pledge Zero contribute to SDGs?

Yes, Pledge Zero will contribute to SGDs, notably SDG 11 - Sustainable cities and communities; SDG 12 - Responsible Consumption and Production; and SDG 13 - Climate action.

13 How will Pledge Zero measure signatories' progress?

Each signatory will measure the progress in their actions towards set waste reducing targets on a regular basis and share it with Pledge Zero’s strategic partners to check and consolidate the information.

14 How will Pledge Zero report on the signatories' progress?

Pledge Zero’s strategic partner, Neutral Ways, will consolidate each signatory progress and prepare the corresponding reports. Report will be made under the name of Pledge Zero. Individual reports are available upon request from the signatories.

15 How will Pledge Zero mesure the carbon reduction units?

All the efforts aimed to achieve the goals will be quantified in terms of CO2e emission reductions by Core Zero, a PaaS (Platform as a Service) supported by different proprietary or third-party methodologies.

16 Can I use Pledge Zero Decal on my webpage, social & digital channels?

Companies are encouraged to consider using Pledge Zero decal as proof point of their zero waste commitments. Some requirements may apply prior to using the decal. Please connect with our communication team to find out more.

17 Who's Core Zero?

Core Zero is a PaaS (Platform as a service) for management, quantification and authentication capable of converting the positive impact of multiple initiatives or projects that generate a reduction of waste into value through carbon credits based on different proprietary or third-party methodologies.
